El-Rufai’s Political Gimmicks Exposed by Niger Delta Youth Congress

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has issued a statement firmly rejecting former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s recent proposal for a political alliance between Nigeria’s North and South-South regions ahead of the 2027 elections.

In the statement, the NDYC characterized El-Rufai’s overture as a “self-serving maneuver” from someone whose political history they describe as “littered with deception, betrayal, and insatiable ambition.” The organization specifically cited El-Rufai’s previous opposition to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as evidence of his inconsistency.

The youth congress suggested that El-Rufai’s current interest in an alliance stems from his diminished political standing within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) rather than genuine patriotism. They referenced ongoing investigations by the Kaduna State House of Assembly into alleged financial improprieties during El-Rufai’s governorship.

NDYC President Comrade Israel Uwejeyan signed the statement, which concluded by urging South-South residents and Nigerians to remain vigilant against politicians who might seek to “manipulate their way back into power under the pretense of national interest.” The organization emphasized that the South-South region “will not be a sanctuary for political fugitives” nor “used as a pawn in selfish games.”
